Couples - For Parents!

$55.00 Per hour. Special Rate - Hypnosis for Childbirth Prep, etc.

Hypnosis and self-hypnosis can be an effective part of childbirth preparation, complementing techniques learned in birthing classes. It can help decrease overall stress and create more positive feelings during pregnancy, and also help the birthing mother manage her pain during labor. Postpartum hypnosis can encourage sleep and reduce stress for both partners.

I will work with you to create a program of childbirth preparation and postpartum hypnosis and self-hypnosis for you and/or your partner. I have set my hourly fee deliberately low for the first four pre-childbirth and/or postpartum appointments.

Examples of two recent studies that support the uses of hypnosis for easing childbirth pain and worry:

2007. VandeVusse et. al. Hypnosis for Childbirth: A Retrospective Comparative Analysis of Outcomes in One Obstetrician’s Practice.

2012. Madden et. al. Hypnosis for Pain Management During Labor and Childbirth

NEW! I am delighted to announce that I will include Postpartum Doula and Certified Breastfeeding Specialist services in my professional "repertoire" after Jan. 1, 2016.

What is a Postpartum Doula?

A Postpartum Doula works with you as a consultant who can offer practical and educational "TLC" designed to empower the whole family during the "Fourth Trimester" (first twelve weeks after birth). While the focus is on largely on the mother and newest baby(s), Postpartum Doulas consider the wellbeing of all family members.

What is a Certified Breastfeeding Specialist?

Certified Breastfeeding Specialist is a trademarked certificate awarded upon completion of 45-90 hours of the Lactation Consultant Training Program offered by Lactation Education Resources.

I will have completed the 90-hour program by the time I begin offering this service. This program is part of my ongoing training to become an IBLCE Certified Lactation Consultant.

Services

As a Postpartum Doula and Certified Breastfeeding Specialist, I work with you as a consultant who can offer a range of emotional, informational, and practical services:

• postpartum support for the family, with emphasis on bonding between parents and child(ren);

• breastfeeding tips and instruction;

• respite for the mother (allow her to nap and do self-care);

• instruction and assistance with care of the new baby(s);

• Postpartum sexuality counseling (see below);

• Secrets of Successful Couples - For Parents! class (see below);

• light household tasks (using non-toxic products and methods);

• some sibling and limited pet care;

• light meal preparation;

• miscellaneous tasks as requested.

Shifts are usually four hours long and can be scheduled anytime between 6 AM to 10 PM. (Sorry, no overnight shifts available.)

I happily work with people who are LGBTQI, etc., poly, and/or engaged in "alternative lifestyles." NCSF KAP-listed professional.

Q&A

Why is a Clinical Sexologist doing doula work and breastfeeding support?

Short answer: I believe in supporting health and intimacy in relationships. Postpartum doula and breastfeeding specialist work are great ways to "give back" to families and communities, including those who are disadvantaged. I am also interested in offering these services to people and families who may be misunderstood by mainstream practitioners due to their sexual orientations or "lifestyles."

Long answer: As you can see by my bio, my background includes training and work as a postpartum doula in San Francisco (1990s). In the last couple of years, I've been inspired to renew my connection with this work, in addition to offering hypnosis for childbirth and the other services on this page. I am presently in the process of re-training and re-certifying as a postpartum doula through DONA International

In addition to the basic Lactation Management course completed as part of the postpartum doula requirements (right), I have also enrolled in a Lactation Consultant course (90 plus hours) and intend to pursue certification. As an interim provider of lactation support services, I'll be a "Certified Breastfeeding Specialist" after I complete 45-90 hours of instruction through Lactation Education Resources (mentioned above).

I look forward to once again offering these special services to parents, babies, and families.

$55.00 Per hour - Postpartum Sex Counseling (First 2 hours).

Learn ways to experience sexual satisfaction and emotional connection after the baby arrives. Very often new parents experience a significant change or decrease in their emotional and sexual intimacy in the weeks, months, and even years after the arrival of a child. Postpartum intimacy counseling will support you in the challenges of maintaining and nurturing a thriving sex life in the first months and years of your child's life. Bringing Up Baby - It's Harder Than You Think!

Many expectant couples believe that having a baby will bring them closer together. Sadly, this is not always true. Parenthood can have a number of adverse effects on adult relationships. Previously unrecognized or unexpressed expectations about parenting, types of support, finances, etc. can add to the stress.

Four Hours of Class - Online or Group Workshop

This series of four, hour-long classes incorporates portions of the well-known PREP® “marriage education” curriculum developed at the University of Denver (www.prepinc.com) and derives from research into successful long-term relationships and what makes them work (see study below - co-authors Markman and Stanley are PREP.inc founders). I am an approved PREP.inc marriage curriculum facilitator for the 7.0 curriculumI have adapted this course to address specific needs of expectant and new parents, in all kinds of relationship configurations, orientations, and lifestyles.

Some parts of the course are taped, available online.

Topics covered include:

Hidden expectations and how to recognize and express them.

Risk factors.

Danger signs of escalating conflict.

Communication techniques and filters.

Negotiation and simple conflict resolution.

Sexual intimacy and erotic communication.

And more.

People who are LGBTQI, etc., and/or engaged in "alternative lifestyles" are welcome.
